Located outside the central Michigan town of St. Johns, Sleezy Barb Horsewear was founded in 1997 by Barb Drake. It all began when her Paint gelding, Exciteme With Magic, shredded his new $89 sleazy hood the first night of a weekend show. She knew that if the hood wasn't comfortable her horse would do anything to get rid of that source of irritation. With that in mind, after returning from the show, she started drawing and testing designs on her horse and horses of friends. Soon people took notice at the shows and began asking if she would make a sleezy for their horse. Since then the business has grown rapidly. Filling a void in the marketplace for high quality products at reasonable prices the Sleezy Barb Horsewear name has grown to be a trusted name in the custom horsewear industry. All of our products have been specifically designed by people with show ring experience to meet the needs of the competitive exhibitor.

In 1999, Sleezy Barb ventured into eCommerce and quickly became popular with the customers who were buying horse sleezys at the shows. Since that time, the website has continuously grown and improved by offering such industry innovations as a 48-72 hour turn around time on made-to-order sleezys instead of the typical two weeks time frame, pioneering the concept of "Build Your Own Sleezy" which allows the customer to design their own custom sleezy from fabric selection to zipper type to girth closure, and free custom alterations.
